DIY Lace Votives

The last few years I've added a few dark glam pieces to the Halloween decor. Yarn Halloween Bat Wreath

Yarn Halloween Wreath

I have a habit of ignoring many trends. The fact that everyone is doing something can be a big turn off for me, so by the time I act on a trend it's often no longer a trend. Do you ever feel like that? Enter the yarn wreath. I've seen so many cute ones...I've even pinned a few to my wreath Pinterest board, but I just never felt the urge to make one. Then last week while wandering around Michael's, I found this amazingly fun sparkly eyelash yarn. I wanted to use it for a wreath, but it would have taken a million skeins and cost a fortune to use on its own so I picked up some super-soft, … [Read more...]

DIY Cloche {Halloween Display}

cloche

Today I am sharing a fun DIY Halloween Cloche. This project couldn't be any easier...seriously you can find these vintage cheese trays at any local thrift shop.  I see them all the time.  Usually at a price point of $1.50 - $6.  Most times I have seen them with the glass dome.  If you happen to see one grab it!  They look similar to this one I found on Etsy. I have had the cheese tray and glass dome for about a year, I previously spray painted it black and had it out for a display last year..but didn't love it.  It needed something. While shopping at my local grocery … [Read more...]

DIY West Elm Style Bubble Air Plants

West Elm Style Bubble Air Plants

I've started trimming back a lot of my outdoor plants for fall. Though I love this time of year, I do get a little sad clearing out the fading flowers from my deck and getting the planters ready for winter storage. I am especially sensitive because there is a real lack of light, and plants, in my main living space...The situation has helped establish my infatuation with decorating with air plants and succulents. Anyone else have a similar infatuation? I started an air plant style file ages ago. Here are a few favorites... Shane Powers Bubbles via West Elm Cube Aerium via Flora … [Read more...]

How to Pick the Perfect Entryway Rug

Entry Rug

Choosing a rug is one of the most difficult design decisions I've made in my house. Selecting flooring? No problem. Choosing paint colors? No big deal. Choosing a rug, even a small 2x3 for the entryway? Nearly impossible. Anyone else have this problem? In the summer I've resorted to using bamboo rugs in both the front entry and near the door out to the back deck. I like the modern, sleek look they provide and they're so durable. I purchased my bamboo rugs from World Market - I think they are about three years old and still look great! The weather is cooling off again though and … [Read more...]

How to Remove Wallpaper

How to remove old wallpaper

In an old house, you're bound to run into wallpaper in at least a few of the rooms. In my grandma's house, there's wallpaper in almost all of the rooms - generally multiple layers. As we've de-papered several area's now, I thought I would share the tips and tricks that have been picked up along the way... I love this brightly lit bedroom that sits at the back of the house, but the dainty wallpaper my grandmother installed sometime between 1975-80 just had to go... I would like to say that this was the only layer of paper in the room, but under this sweet stripped floral print was some … [Read more...]

Baby Food Jar Pumpkins

baby food jar craft

It seems like I always have a need for little gifts and items to share...It's lead me to pick up little items here and there that can be up-cycled into a small goodie. It's gotten to the point where I can't resist the Target "dollar" area and I have a whole "gift" closet (please tell me I am not the only one with this problem). I am trying to be more frugal, which really translates into using what I've already got. So this week when I knew I would need a few items for some of the ladies in my neighborhood, I dove into the craft closet. I inherited some a lot of at least 100 baby food … [Read more...]
