How to Check Facebook’s Spam Filter

When I was a kid people used to say, “I tried and tried to call you, but I just couldn’t get through.” Times have changed a great deal, now we have call waiting and EVERYONE has voicemail.

Today’s “I tried and tried,” is electronic. I sent you an email, I commented on your site or on Facebook, but you can’t find a thing…It’s usually due to the spam filter.

You will end up on a page that looks like this:

Click on the button located on the far right of your screen that reads “all” and then select “spam” from the drop down box.

You will reach a page that documents all of the comments Facebook has ruled as spam.

Most of what you will find there will probably be spam. You can choose to delete those (you can also block that individual or page from posting again) comments or leave them. Whatever you prefer.

For those comments that shouldn’t have been listed as spam, simply select “unmark as spam.”

That’s it! So simple.

I try to check my filter every week or so, but it’s easy to forget. I really need to add it to my daily calendar.

  1. Wow! Thanks, Tauni! I had no idea. Luckily I only had a couple and only one was a legitimate comment. Thanks, friend! :)

    • Michele, Facebook has gotten much better about accurate spam assessment. When I first started managing a page, this was a much bigger problem. My difficulty is that I forget to go in and check it!

      xoxo, Tauni

  2. Great tip! I just found a few hidden comments on my fan page. Thank you! Elizabeth

  3. What a great tip! I had two comments from legit customers… along with some spam. Thanks for posting this!

    • Laura, Glad you found the post helpful. I find that Facebook does a pretty decent job, but every once in a while there is something in there that doesn’t belong.

      Thank for leaving a note!

      xoxo, Tauni

  4. Yep, didn’t know that one! Thanks so much for sharing!!! :)

    • Kassi, I always forget to check it, but it’s sure a good lesson. The filter wasn’t always as good and I used to find lots of stuff in there.

      xoxo, Tauni

  5. Thank you so much for the reminder to go in and check mine. I had forgotten about this!

  6. Thank you! I had no idea until I read this on Wonky Wonderful’s FB page. I uncovered quite a few legit comments.
