With Steph’s post on Haunted Castles and my blogging/house analogy earlier this week, we’re on a bit of a home talk roll…Why stop now?
There are so many variables that work together to make a house a home, don’t you think? One of my favorite features is the hearth. When topped off with the right mantel, it serves as a source of warmth, a strong focal point and brings in an element of style.
I decorate the my mantel for the season. Every October I face such a dilemma. Do I decorate for fall or for Halloween?Halloween or fall? Pumpkins provide the perfect middle ground.
With that in mind, here are eight fall mantel decorating ideas featuring pumpkins:
I love this mantel.
Perhaps the thing I enjoy most about this mantel is the mix of traditional style, with the crisp modern white of the pumpkins.
What’s better than a rainbow of heirloom pumpkins? Simple, yet perfect from Poetic Home.
What really captured my attention though, was the great hang tags attached to the pumpkins and the little pine cones scattered throughout. (You do know I have a pine cone obsession, don’t you?)
This mantel photographed by Melissa Ann is so striking. It’s a fresh clean look for fall that I haven’t seen before.
The pale pumpkins paired with the hydrangeas provide such a modern vibe. LOVE.
The tone of this particular collection put together by Everyday Lovely lends a warmth that speaks volumes and feels fall.
I love that 7 pumpkins and a little harvest wheat can set the season for an entire room.
Here’s a great decorating idea from Good Housekeeping.
Swap out the black for a little brown or even a few other-colored gourds and you’ve got a Thanksgiving silhouette.
Have you ever noticed how many great shades you can find (or paint) pumpkins in?
I’ve enjoyed the emergence of blue pumpkins this season – they’re everywhere. You can see more of this fantastic blue mantel-scape over at Susie Harris.
Here’s another great pumpkin mantel from Good Housekeeping.
I love how brightly colored this display is, especially against the white.
Chic on a Shoestring Decorating has created a great display with spray painted white pumpkins.
The leaves and the coffee filter wreath provide just the right touch of fall color. (Plus, I can see we’ve purchased the same little white owls. Great minds thing alike?)
So in October, do you decorate for fall or for Halloween? My mantel is currently covered in spooky glam. I will switch it out at the end of the month for a more appropriate fall display.

I usually decorate for fall, and don’t really do too much that’s Halloween specific except for carve pumpkins. I guess it’s probably just because I don’t have kids, and the Halloween stuff only is really appropriate for about a month. With fall stuff I can decorate at the end of September & have it out until I start decorating for Christmas in middle/late November.

You know Sarah, it’s not been all that long that I have had kids around. I used to do a touch of Halloween decorating here and there, but it never really got big until kids were in the picture. Of course, it doesn’t help that I live in UT and we’re a touch crazy here over Halloween (probably due to all of the kids!).
I enjoyed stopping over to your blog the other day and checking out your site. Fun stuff!

These are all so gorgeous! I love decorating for fall, especially Halloween. I’m going to have to use some of these ideas when it comes time to just do fall decorations.
