A New Blogger Feature: Threaded Comments

Yesterday new contributor Holly from Paisley Petal events knocked it out of the park with her Valentine’s Day edible topiary.

Today, I am excited to introduce you to our second amazing regular contributor and I think you’re going to love her too!

Meet Kendra!

Key Lime Digital Designs

Kendra is a Hawaii-based digital designer. Her hard work stands as the background and design on some of the blogosphere’s largest sites. She’s also a social media consultant for a large online craft company.

Amidst running her business and raising a young family with her husband who’s in school, Kendra blogs regularly on her own site Key Lime.

Several weeks ago, I asked about what you’d like to see more of on the site. Overwhelmingly you asked for more Blogger design tips.

I haven’t been on Blogger in a while, so I was “forced” to go out and find THE BEST to help us all out.

So, without further ado…

How to add threaded comments on Blogger

I think almost all bloggers would agree that reading comments is one of the best parts about being a blogger. I love blog comments! The community and friendships that can be created through post comments is amazing!

Although getting readers to actually comment may not always be an easy task [10 Tips to Increase Blog Comments Here] Blogger has  added a new feature that will help make the comment conversations flow a little smoother! Blogger now supports Threaded Comments!

Threaded comments makes it easier to engage with readers and answer questions, reply, give advice or just chit chat!

Bloggers new Threaded Comments should be automatically added to all Blogger blogs but you may have to check a few settings to ensure that they will work correctly.

1. Login to your Blogger Dashboard then go to Settings. Under Settings make sure you have “Allow Blog Feed” set to Full.

2. Under Settings > Posts and Comments > make sure the Comment Location is set to Embedded.

3. Now you will have threaded comments!

If you are still having problems and the option to “reply” to comments still isn’t showing up on your blog you can view the Blogger Help Page for more pointers and additional information!

What do you think? Will you be trying out this new feature?

  1. Thank you so much! I’ve been seeing an increase in comments on my blog lately and it’s always bothered me that I cant have a comment thread like on some of the other blogs that I read. Thank you for posting this topic!

  3. I added that feature a few weeks ago, but I wondered if anyone knew if the reply automatically goes back to the commenter. I like to make sure my replies go right back to the commenter and have been double commenting (one on the post and one from my email) just to make sure. Thoughts?!?!

    • This feature does not send an auto reply to the commenter via email. You will still have to do that manually, darn it!

      • That is what I thought!! I really like the back and forth via email I have with some of my followers! It makes for a good community! I guess I will just keep doing both!! :) !

        Thanks!!!

  5. I soooo want to do this, but until the figure out a way to post a reply in the thread AND send a reply back via email, I will have to wait. :( Boo. Thanks for the tutorial none the less. I always have so much more confidence monkeying around with my settings if there is a clear tutorial I can refer to, so thanks.

  7. Love that your site is giving directions on how to do things on Blogger, as every guide I find online seems geared to WordPress. I’m reading this in 1/2013 and hoping you might be able to update with good news about automatic email notification to commentors when someone replies to their comment. Wishful thinking?

    • Deirdre, Thanks for your comment. I try to have an even number of Blogger and WordPress tutorials on the site since they’re the two most popular platforms. I hope you’re able to use our Blogger tutorials in the future. I always run a blogger tutorial on the second Tuesday of the month (sometimes more often). I wish I could update the post and indicate automatic email notification is right around the corner, but I haven’t heard anything! –Tauni

  8. This is helpful!! I’m new to this blogging and I am VERY EXCITED ABOUT IT! I have been posting as much as I can but I haven’t gotten any comments. So that made me wonder if something was preventing this or is nobody commenting? I’ve taken advise from other sites and I’m on Twitter, FB, and Im gonna start a Pintrest account very soon. Any other ideas??
