SNAP! 2013 Call for Speakers

Do you want to speak at SNAP!? Is there a speaker you’re dying to hear, or a topic you’d really like to have covered? It’s time to let us know…

We’ve been busy setting a schedule and working with some of our keynote speakers and we’re excited to announce that the SNAP! 2013 call for panel speakers and hands-on instructors is officially open!

SNAP Call for Speakers

We will be accepting speaker applications through January 21 at midnight and hope to begin making speaker announcements by early February.

This year we’re looking for very specific panel suggestions and hands-on class ideas. All proposals should fall under one of the following tracks: professional (blogging tips, social media instruction, monetization and small business development), photography, contemporary crafting, home decor and DIY, entertaining and party planning.

When you submit your proposal, we will be looking for a topic (class title) and a course description. In addition, please be prepared to share the top three things attendees will walk away from the class with and what, if any, supplies you will need SNAP! to provide.

You will also be asked to submit a 400 word bio and a photo of yourself. Make sure it’s the image you want us to use online, as we may be able to change it.

We cannot guarantee that you will be able to speak on the specific topic you’ve submitted or with the other panelists you may have suggested. By submitting a proposal, we’re assuming you’re interested in speaking at SNAP! in general and if there’s an alternate panel we think you’re suited for or a chance to moderate, we will still extend an invitation.

SNAP! panel speakers and hands on instructors will receive a complimentary full conference registration. Please note that with the exception of keynote speakers, hotel accommodations and travel are not covered.

If you have already purchased a conference ticket (and hey, they went fast, we don’t blame you), you will have the option of transferring your ticket to another guest at no cost or a full refund.

If you have any questions, would like to suggest a speaker or topic, feel free to leave a comment on this post!

  5. Squee! Super excited for SNAP this year!

I would love to see a class on branding. I’d love to hear some helpful tips for creating a cohesive and effective image for my blog and how to carry it across all forms of media and print. :)

P.S. Hope you’re feeling better Tauni!

    • Thanks Katie! I appreciate your insight. We’re actually looking at including a class on branding. And thanks for asking about my health…I am doing so much better! xoxo, Tauni

  6. Tauni, I’d love to see a class tailored at writing…ways to find inspiration, getting personal on your blog, etc. Beth Anne at Okay BA (formerly Heir to Blair) is phenomenal. She’s not necessarily a craft blogger, but I think she’d be amazing at this. I’d also love to see classes tailored at sponsorships, monetization, and the dreaded SEO

    • Hey Abbey, thanks for your thoughts. I think we’re planning to cover most of those topics. I don’t know Okay BA (well, personally anyway), but if you do and would like to encourage her to apply, that would be great! xoxo, Tauni

  7. Has the topic of how to deal with your blog and taxes been discussed? I’m dealing with that now and I don’t even know where to start and at what point does your blog need to start claiming? :)

And I’m super excited to learn everything and anything!!!!

    • Rebecca, that’s a great topic. I always struggle trying to find a good speaker on this one, because tax laws differ from state to state. I am still working on it though…I do know that federally you need to start claiming blog income on your taxes when your blog brings in $400 in-kind or cash. Hope that helps a little! xoxo, Tauni

  8. I applied!! Fingers crossed, I would be so honored to speak at SNAP.

I will be going to SNAP by myself. I am flying from Nashville. I haven’t bought tickets yet but was hoping I could get some insight on travel to and from and hotel. Just a little anxious since I have never been. Thanks!

    • Hey Deneen, Great question! I need to get it up on the site. We will be providing free passes for travel on our local trains from the airport to the site. If you would like to have a car, rentals are available. The trip is super-simple (the airport and venue are both right off the freeway) about 40 min. door to door. Taxi’s are also available, but they’re a touch expensive at $40.

Don’t be anxious…It’s an easy trip and you will be welcomed with open arms!

Let me know if you have any other questions.

      xoxo

  10. Along with all the branding and writing stuff, have you considered any kind of “public speaking for Bloggers” as a topic within a larger class? As blogs grow many bloggers will have the chance to meet with people they need to impress in person, teach classes, appear in the media etc. A “writer’s voice” and “speakers voice” aren’t always the same. Public speaking is less scary when you feel you can handle and present yourself well.

  14. OK, I have been brainstorming things I would like to learn. Here’s my list:

How to use social media most effectively
How to get readers who will stick around and become your loyal followers
How to know how much your work is worth $$ wise
    How to work with sponsors
