Show & Tell Wednesday No. 24: The Handbuilt Home {Giveaway}

Ana White’s The Handbuilt Home

It’s not often that a get so nervous over meeting another blogger that I loose my words. (Let’s be honest, it’s really not often that I am at a loss for words period.)

And, although I was a bit beside myself with nerves, I was thrilled to meet Ana White when she flew all the way from Alaska to speak at SNAP! last year.

The Handbuilt HomeAna is one of my DIY heros. On her site you will find simple step-by-step instructions for building just about anything you ever might need for your home.

And now? She has a new book out called The Handbuilt Home.

The Handbuilt HomeHave you seen it yet?

The Handbuilt Home is chock full of simple, budget friendly DIY projects. I love how easy to follow the directions are and I adore that she’s featured builds by friends like Amy and Kirsten.

What was really fun though was having my brother Adam, a builder, thumb through the book and get excited. In fact, he stole my copy and I had to go buy a new one!

In a sentence. The Handbuilt Home is awesome!

To give you a taste for what the book is all about, Ana has generously offered a download of the Farmhouse bench instructions (I’ve actually got one in the works) for free!

This first feature was a natural click for me. I LOVE bulletin boards, plus I was just whining about trophy storage yesterday (my mom is threatening to throw out all of my high school trophies – can you imagine?! LOL). In any event, you MUST check out this darling DIY trophy display and bulletin board from House on Harrison.

And, wouldn’t you know the plans for this bulletin board trophy display piece came from Ana White’s book The Handbuilt Home.

I love these DIY vintage-style grates shared by Cynthia at the Jordan Valley Home and Garden Club.

  1. Thanks tons for the party Ana’s books sounds fantastic. It’s so fun to see all these bloggers with books out lately!

  2. I would so love to receive Ana’s book! Right now my living room is inspiring me to create because I’m itching to give it a makeover. All thanks to the last SNAP! conference, by the way. 😉

  3. What room inspires me to create?? My kitchen – bright and cheery and all the action of the family happens there…

  4. Thanks for the great party! Happy Wednesday!!

  5. Hi Tauni,
Those are all great features! Thanks for hosting the link party this week.

  6. I love Ana”s projects – we just finished her rustic cross bar table for our granddaughter’s room. Our next project is her farmhouse bed. My son does the building – I do the painting. He says her projects are so easy and I think they are timeless. I would love to receive her book. Thanks for hosting the party and the chance to win such an awesome giveaway……

  7. I would love to see this book (better yet to win a copy) because the room in my house that inspires me the most is my Kitchen/dinning room.

  8. I am in the process of tacking my Gym/Office.

Thanks for hosting and hope your week is filled with Blessings.

  9. Thanks for hosting Tauni!

  10. Such a beautiful book! I feel like it was written by a friend. Thanks for the giveaway! Lisa~

  11. What a fun book! When it’s clean, my office/craft room inspires me to create!!

  12. That book looks awesome! I have to build a large chicken coop this year, and I’d love to build a gazebo for the yard. There are a ton of things I’d like to do, but the chicken coop is a must do.

  13. My family room constantly inspired me to change things up and design. I love it!

  14. I’d have to say my living room. Thats the most used room in our house. I want it to be cozy and a reflection of us.

  15. Thank you hosting this link party. Ana does beautiful work, wow.
    Wanda Ann

  16. The Dining Room is the room I find the most inspiring.

  17. At Snap at one point I realized I was sitting by Ana and I had my own little party in my head :) She is beautiful and so talented! I would love to win this book – and will probably buy it if I don’t. I really have so many DIY projects but the first is finishing my kitchen floor.

  18. I love the farm house bench and the room that inspires me to create is my bedroom because it is a blank canvas right now newly painted and ready to decorate and DIY projects

  19. Thanks for hosting Tawni! Right now I am really wanting to update my kitchen. I would love to make one of Ana’s tables for it.

  20. Our back entry and my studio are inspiring me to build, build, build!

  21. My kitchen inspires me most, so it is the most put together. I’d love this book to help me get inspired for other rooms in the house!

  22. We have so many things I want to tackle!! Probably the first though is a bench for our foyer. Thanks for the giveaway.

  23. My dinning room!

  24. Thanks so much for hosting. As far as Ana White is concerned, I LOVE HER! I’ve built a craft table from her plans and am looking forward to making some beds for my boys rooms.

  25. I adore Ana White, and had no idea that she had a book out! I NEED this book so much! My husband is NOT a handy guy at all (seriously, he BREAKS things when he tried to “fix” them!!) and we need this so that we can turn our little cookie cutter house into a more defined space. I really want to build ourselved a king sized bed complete with a headboard! Right now our bed is on rails. We have never had a “real” bed because they cost so so much to buy at furniture stores. Being able to make one would be a dream come true!

  26. This is so cool! I would love to win one of these! We just built our first item a few months ago and love it.

    • Also the room that inspires me most is the kitchen. I love farmhouse tables and chairs, and everything else that goes along with them. The living room is a close second.

  27. I’m not sure it inspires me but I really want to do some work in my son’s room. Other than that, I live in my craft room.

  28. I have this in my shopping cart at Amazon! I can’t wait to get it.

  29. Oh my – I commented and didn’t read what we were supposed to write! For sure my craft room. All my paints, fabric and creative baubles are in there!!

  30. my bedroom

  31. What room inspires me most in my home? Hmmm… That would be whatever room is bugging me the most. I’ve been known to get a cup of tea (or slice of pie), pull up a chair, and stare at the room, imagining possibilities, until I settle on a design plan. I don’t always stick to the plan, but I find this method works great as a starting point!

  32. Hard to narrow it down to one room, but currently I’m trying to find an idea for making a coffee table for my living room!

  33. I have a special craft room where I go to create. I just recently rearranged and organized it for more inspiration!

  34. The room that inspires me is our little office/craft room. I’ve been trying to fill it with colors, patterns, and things that inspire to create. My kids are loving it!
